Obituary Notice Hilda Lillian Yarrington The death occurred on Friday, December 11 in Rylstone Hospital of Hilda Lillian Yarrington, aged 87. Mrs. Yarrington was born in 1900 at Rylstone and lived there all her life. She began her schooling at the Nullo Mountain school and transferred to Rylstone school when she was 10. At the age of 16 years Mrs. Yarrington and her elder sister bought the Rylstone Newsagency for 50 pounds, and six months later Mrs. Yarrington was the sole owner of the business. During the time of her ownership, the business had five moves along the main street. She worked there for 71 years, retiring just four years ago. However she continued to work at home, and according to her daughter, Mrs. Betty Edwards, who now runs the newsagency, 'Kept an eye on us.' 'We couldn't do anything she didn't know about,' Mrs. Edwards said. Mrs. Yarrington was predeceased by her husband Albert James (Barney) and her son-in-law Alf. She is survived by her daughters Pat, Betty, Gwenda and Marilyn, and sons-in-law Alan, Eric and Byron, as well as grandchildren and great-grandchildren. A funeral service was held last Monday, December 14 at the St. James Anglican Church in Rylstone, and the burial took place in the Rylstone Cemetery. Mudgee Guardian, Friday 18 December 1987, p. 9.
