Note: DEATHS

DEATHS William Edward Giles By the death of Mr. William Edward Giles, which occurred in the Mudgee Hospital this morning, the Pyramul district has lost one of its finest and best-liked characters. For practically the whole of his long and useful life of 79 years he lived and labored in that district, earning the respect and esteem of his fellows. Like most of the pioneering stock, he had to face hardships in the early days of settlement, but these were met and overcome, and at his comfortable home at Glencoe he lived at peace with the world and happy in his family ties. William Edward Giles, it can be truly said, will be greatly missed by his fellow men, and his memory will be held in reverence by friends right throughout the district. He is survived by a widow — a member of the highly esteemed Learmont family, — two sons and three daughters, and to these sorrowing ones the sympathy of the whole community will be extended. The funeral will take place to the Church of England portion of the Pyramul cemetery tomorrow (Tuesday) afternoon, and the Rev. Mr. Laing, of Hill End, will officiate. The arrangements are in the hands of Messrs. J. C. Swords and Son (Mudgee Guardian and North-Western Representative, Monday 9 November 1942, page 3).

Note: MAINLY ABOUT

MAINLY ABOUT PEOPLE MUDGEE DISTRICT PERSONALITIES In our report of the death of Mr. W. E. Giles, we stated that he was an old identity of Pyramul. This was a mistake, as deceased spent practically all his life at Crudine. He was buried in that centre on Tuesday last, and old friends from near and far united in paying their last sad tribute of respect to the memory of a fine old character (Mudgee Guardian and North-Western Representative, Thursday 12 November 1942, page 2).
