CHARLES ARCHER. Mr. Charlie Archer, aged 19 years, son of Mr. Henry Archer of Ulan who was admitted to the Gulgong Hospital last week, suffering from tetanus, died in that institution. He was a very popular young fellow, and a member of a highly-respected family. It appears that he was engaged rabbiting about three weeks ago, when a rabbit scratched him on the hand. It is believed that germs from the earth got into the hand, and brought on the terrible disease. The young fellow wanted to go to the war for some months past, but his parents considered that he was scarcely old enough. Much sympathy is expressed for the bereaved parents and relatives (Mudgee Guardian and North-Western Representative, Monday 22 May 1916, page 2).

Note: Round-A-Bout With Belle

Round-A-Bout With Belle The death occurred of Mr. Lionel Victor Archer of “Echo Dell” Turill. “Lysle” as he was known, was a member of a large family. He was the youngest son of the late Mr. and Mrs. Harry Archer, pioneers of the Murragamba-Ulan area. Over the years Lysle had been employed as a rural worker, and then he had a carrying business, carting sleepers and grain. He also drove the Turill-Uarbry school bus for many years. As well, he had his farming and grazing property “Echo Dell”. He had a very cheery disposition and as a younger man enjoyed sport, and played a good game of tennis. Lysle was also a regular supporter of the Presbyterian Church at Turill in the Gulgong Parish. He is survived by his wife Louise, who unfortunately has been a semi-invalid for many years, his daughters Pamela and Marjorie, sons Wally and Morrie also his bers and sisters. The esteem in which Lysle Archer was held was evident in the large number of people who filled and overflowed from St. Cuthbert’s Anglican Church at Ulan. It seemed very fitting that the funeral service was conducted by the Presbyterian Minister from Gulgong, in St. Cuthbert’s Anglican Church where Lysle’s late parents and members of his family worshipped for many years. The funeral took place in the Ulan Cemetery at 3 p.m. on March 26. Mudgee Guardian, Tuesday 3 April 1984, p. 2. Death Lionel Victor Archer
