Death of a husband | William McCabe 20 August 1917 Tragic Death. AT CASSILIS. THROWN FROM A POISON CART. Mr. William McCabe, of Ulan, met his death under tragic circumstances on Monday. Mr. McCabe was engaged, with his son William, rabbiting on Mr. Busby's station, near Cassilis, and was driving a poison cart. He was found by his son dead on the track of the cart. It is supposed that he was in some way jolted off the cart, and that in the fall his neck was broken. He had apparently been dead some hour and a half when his body was found by his son. Dr. Anderson, of Cassilis, was sent for immediately after the finding of the body. He on arrival pronounced life to be extinct. The body was taken by motor car to Mr. McCabe's late residence at Ulan. The funeral took place yesterday morning, the interment being made in the Ulan Catholic Cemetery. The deceased, who was 62 years of age, was an old and highly-respected resident of the district, to which he came from the Richmond River district many years ago. He leaves a large family, the youngest of whom, a son (Edward) is only eight years of age. The other members of the family are Mrs. Oakley (Cook's Gap), Mrs. B. Warner (Moolarben) and the Misses Marie and Katherine McCabe (daughters) and Messrs. William, John Herbert and Leo (all of Ulan and all unmarried), sons.
