CULLEN BULLEN. THE LATE MR. CORLIS. (From our own Correspondent.) Great gloom was cast over the locality when the sad news was known of the death of Mr. Michael Corlis, sen., of Ben Bullen, at the age of 75, after several weeks' illness. His wide circle of friends did not think the end was so near till a change manifested itself, on Tuesday and on Friday he passed peacefully away. The loss the district has sustained no one can express, for our deceased friend was ever ready to help those in need, and his kind, unselfish disposition won respect and universal approbation. As the hearse made his way to the abode of the dead - Capertee cemetery - representatives of nearly every family in the district, and for miles beyond, followed, making one of the larg-est funerals witnessed for years. The Rev. Father Corbett, of Sofala, officiated at the graveside. Deceased has left a sorrowing widow and family, and many relatives to mourn their loss. In offering my sympathy to the bereaved ones I tender a universal sentiment. Lithgow Mercury, Friday 4 September 1908, p. 3. Obituary Michael Corlis

Deceased, who was unmarried. and only 35 years of age, had for the past twelve months been in ill-health, so that death came as a happy release from his sufferings. The funeral took place today, and was largely attended. The remains were interred in the Capertee cemetery, the last sad rites being performed by Rev. Father O'Brien, of Portland. Much sympathy is felt for the bereaved relatives. Lithgow Mercury Monday 16 November 1914, p. 3. Death Michael Corlis

Note: BEN BULLEN.

BEN BULLEN. (From our own Correspondent.) I regret to report the death of Mrs. M. Corlis, senr., relict of the late Mr. Michael Corlis, which sad event took place last week at the residence of her son, Mr. Charles Corlis. For some considerable time the deceased lady, who had attained the great age of 76 years, had been failing. Mrs. Corlis was one of the oldest residents of Ben Bullen, much of her childhood having been spent in the vicinity. She was very highly respected by all; a devoted wife and mother; a fine neighbor; while being kind and charitable to all. Two of Mrs. Corlis' sons predeceased her, while her seven surviving children are the Messrs. Michael, Charles, William, and Edward Corlis, and Mesdames J. O'Farrell, L. O'Brien, and J. McDonnell. The funeral cortege was a large one, being representative of this and the surrounding districts, while as a mark of respect to the deceased lady no work took place at Messrs. Hoskins Ltd. Many beautiful floral tributes were placed on the coffin. Some time ago Mr. Chapman senr. sustained a slight accident at Messrs. Hoskins Ltd., but I am pleased to say he is now convalescent. Miss Jeffery is the new teacher here, and comes from Goolma. We are all pleased to welcome her. Mr. J. Freestone's brick residence is almost completed, while Mr. Taylor, of Piper's Flat, contemplates building at an early date. The maintenance men, under Mr. Dan Cooney, are now at work on the Quarry road. For some considerable time this road has been in a dreadful state. Lithgow Mercury, Friday 15 October 1915, p. 3.
