Mrs Pirie Was A Grand Old Lady Christina Marie Pirie, the daughter of Asmus and Elizabeth Hansen was born at Wedderburn, Victoria on 28th September 1887 and passed away on April 14 1982 at Pioneer House, Mudgee - a grand and dignified old lady aged 94 years. Mrs. Pirie was brought up by good Christian clean-living parents in the Wedderburn goldfields, and enjoyed a happy childhood and youth with her sisters and ber. She is now survived by one sister Milly of Charlton, Victoria who is 88. In 1910 Christina married Mr. James Pirie who had emigrated from Aberdeen, Scotland as a boy. They began married life at Loxton on a Government experimental farm where her first son James William, was born in December 1910. The Pirie family moved to Mudgee in late 1911 to live at “Wallinga”, where Mr. Jim Pirie managed properties for the late James Loneragan. They moved to “Enfield” then “Kaludabah” where Mr. James Pirie passed away suddenly in 1941 at the age of 55. Mrs. Pirie was always a fond and loving mother to her five children - Jim, Alan, Joan, Lorna and Andy. She was ever willing to help others and was noted for her large tennis parties and musical evenings she organised over the years of her married life. Above all she loved gardening and always kept a beautiful flower and vegetable garden. After the passing of her husband, Mrs. Pirie as she requested that she be called right up to the last, lived quietly in Mudgee for 23 years, then with her daughter Joan for nine years and has spent the past eight years in Pioneer House. She was active there in helping and conversing with other patients and was pleasant company to many other old people and visitors until her last moments. Above all she always believed in telling the truth, living a good clean life and had a great love for her family, whom she kept together so well, plus her 12 grandchildren and 17 great-grandchildren. Her love and thoughfulness will ever be remembered by all and in particular her family will cherish the memory of the many regular letters and advice she gave them. Funeral Of Mrs Pirie The funeral will be held today at 11 o’clock of Mrs. Christina Marie Pirie, at the Uniting Church, Mudgee. Mrs. Pirie is a well known identity of Mudgee District. For the past eight years she has been a resident of Pioneer House, Mudgee. She was 94 years. Mrs. Pirie is the wife of the late James Pirie and she is survived by her family, sons, James, Allan, Andy, daughter Joan, and is predeceased by a daughter, Lorna.
