The death occurred at Peninsula Nursing Home, Umina on November 15, of Mary Kathleen Thompson formerly of Willoughby, Sydney. “Queenie” as she was affectionately known, was born in Mudgee ninety-one years ago, she grew up at Monivae, Lue, where her father, the late Billy Walsh, worked as a groom. Her husband Reg Thompson, who predeceased her some years ago, was also a member of a pioneer family of Lue. Reg and Queenie reared a family of eight children, all grew up at Willoughby where Reg worked for the tramways for forty-five years. Times were hard but Queenie never complained. Her ready wit, with a quiet, gentle nature endeared her to all who knew her. Her devoted Catholic faith was a great support. Queenie was a caring, loving wife and mother, was loved by her family, grandchildren and great grandchildren. At ninety-one Queenie was still mentally alert, enjoyed all the activities at the nursing home where she had resided for the past two years. Mrs. Queenie Thompson was one of eleven children, there are only two surviving, her sisters, Mrs. Eileen Hayres of Tasmania and Mrs. Doris Fuller of Randwick. Mrs. Thompson is survived by her eight children Marie Gallagher of Dee Why, Madeline Mico of Chatswood, Norma Keys of Tweed Heads; Eric of Beverley Hills, Ron of Mossy Point, Kevin of Mudgee, Clive of Woy Woy, and Victor of Blaxland. The Requiem Mass service was celebrated in St. Thomas’ Catholic Church, Willoughby by Mrs. Thompson’s nephew, Father John Hayres from Tasmania.
