Note: Death of Mr. D. Cassin.

Death of Mr. D. Cassin. Mr. Daniel Cassin, says a Mudgee wire to the 'S.M.H.', a prominent figure in electioneering in this district for the past 40 years, died on Saturday morning after a fortnight's illness at the age of 77. The deceased gentleman was an intimate friend of the late Sir John Robertson and the late Sir Henry Parkes, and was the local leader in all political movements of a liberal character. Mr. Cassin was over 60 years a resident of the district, and for about 35 years had been connected with the local school board, of which he was chairman and secretary at the time of his death. He was an ex-Mayor of the town, a trustee of the hospital at the time of his death, and a Past master of St. John's Masonic Lodge. Mr. Cassin's death is attributed to dropsy and internal complaints. The funeral of Mr. Cassin took place on Monday. It was one of the largest and most representative seen here for years. The members of St. John's Lodge attended in regalia, and Worshipful Master Lester conducted a Masonic service at the grave. The body was carried to the Wesleyan Church where the Rev. Joseph Woodhouse conducted a service. Four hundred children and Freemasons preceded the hearse on the way to the cemetery. National Advocate, Wednesday 9 March 1898, p. 2. Obituary Daniel Cassin
