DEATH

Mr. S. J. Cox THE death occurred this morning of one of Mudgee's best known residents, Mr. Sidney John Cox, at the age of 61. The late Mr. Cox, who had been ill for about a week, passed away at his residence in Short street. He was born in Mudgee, and had lived here practically all his life. He had established a widespread popularity, and those who will mourn his passing will be legion. A widow, one son and one daughter survive. The son is Vivian (Meroo Downs) and the daughter Clara (Mudgee). The funeral will take place tomorrow to the Church of England portion of the Mudgee cemetery, J. C. Swords and Son will carry out the interment.

MEMBER OF PIONEER FAMILY

THE late Sidney John Cox, to whose death reference was made in a recent issue of the "Guardian," came of a noted pioneering family. His father, the late Vivian Cox, was connected with the old-established firm of Crossing and Cox, in the early days of Mudgee, while his grandfather was among the very earliest of our settlers - one of the gallant band who blazed the track for future generations. Deceased, who followed grazing pursuits for many years, was a keen lover of a good horse, and the "sport of kings" had great attraction for him in the days when the district was noted for its fine thoroughbreds. He is survived by a widow, son (Vivian, Meroo Downs), and daughter (Marjorie).
