On the afternoon of the 6th inst., nearly 200 guests assembled at the home of Mr. and Mrs. P. S. Sheehan 'Hill View,' Upper Botobolar, to celebrate the golden wedding anniversary. The marriage was solemnised in Mudgee in 1888, Right Rev. Monsignor O'Donovan being the celebrant. Mr. Allan Mara occupied the chair. Proposing the toast of the good couple, he referred to the many good qualities of both Mr. and Mrs. Sheehan. The remarks of the chairman were supported by Mr. ClarrieBarton, Mr. Andrew Wiseby, Mr. Andrew Baker, Mr. George Carter, Mr. John O'Brien, and Mr. Edward Gaffney, all of whom referred to the many acts of kindness performed by Mr. and Mrs. Sheehan. Mr. Sheehan feeling responded. Other toasts proposed were those of the children, grandchildren and the ladies, while it was the wish of the speakers and of all present that the aged couple might be spared in health and happiness to celebrate their diamond wedding. Mr. and Mrs. Sheehan have been lifelong residents of the district. Mrs. Sheehan was a member of the well-known and highly-respected Duggan family, of Eurunderee. It must, indeed, have been pleasing to them to have all their children around them on this happy occasion. They comprised Messrs. John Sheehan (Wollar), Augustus (Upper Botobolar), Michael, jun. (Mudgee), Mrs. J. Wilson (Sydney), Mrs. H. Hitchen (Coonamble), Mrs. B. Ellis (Yeoval), Mrs. Frank Wilkins (Yeoval), and Miss Bridget (Quirindi). As well as the children, there were present a sister and ber of Mr. Sheehan in the person of Mr. M. Sheehan (Mudgee), and Mrs. Chris. Lynch, sen. (Upper Botobolar). Another sister, Mrs. J. Loy lives in Bathurst. The combined ages of these four old people(the last survivors of the old Sheehan family) total close upon 330 years. (Catholic Press Thursday 25 August 1938, p. 30).
