Death of a father | William Patrick Halpin 28 January 1933 (aged 32 years) COLLAPSED AND DIED Mr. P. W. Halpin, Kandos It came as a great shock to the townspeople of Kandos when the news came of the death of Mr. Patrick William Halpin, aged 60 years, residing in Fleming street, Kandos. Deceased had just finished playing a game of billiards, and suddenly collapsed and died on Saturday afternoon. Deceased, who had been suffering from heart trouble for a considerable time, was very well known and respected throughout the Mudgee, Rylstone and Kandos districts, where he had resided for a number of years. He leaves a widow and 6 children to mourn, including Mrs Mulley (Mudgee), Mrs. White (Sydney), Mrs. McManus (Kandos), Messrs. Colin, Wilfred and Oscar Halpin (all of whom reside in the Kandos district). The funeral cortege, which was a very long one, left the deceased's late home at 3 p.m. on Sunday, and the burial took place at Rylstone in the Methodist portion of the cemetery, where the Rev. C. C. Cashin preached a very impressive service. Practically every business house of the town had representatives at the funeral, and the Kandos Cement Coy., where deceased was employed, was represented by the works superintendent (Mr. H. Schroder) and Mr. I. McTaggart. There were also a large number of floral tributes and expressions of sympathy. The funeral services were carried out by Mr. J. B. Simpkins. Death of a husband | Stanley Augustus Mulley 25 March 1953 (aged 52 years) The death occurred suddenly on Wednesday of Mr. Stanley ("Snow") Mulley, aged 56 years. Deceased had not enjoyed the best of health for some time, but his passing was not expected. Deceased was a member of one of the oldest families in Mudgee, and for many years | was associated with his bers in the Perry Street butchering business. Like so many of his boyhood friends, he went overseas with the Australian forces in the first world war, and was in the ranks for a lengthy period. Upon returning he was very active in the sporting field, and, with other members of the family, played a prominent part in the Rugby Union contests which were special features in those days. He was noted for his fine sporting qualities, and held the high regard of his fellow players. All over the district he will be greatly missed and old comrades in particular will deeply deplore his passing. He is survived by a widow and the following sons and daughters: Mrs. K. Wall (Geurie), Mrs. K. Headley (Mudgee), Colleen (Mudgee), Desmond and Glen (Mudgee), and profound sympathy is extended to the bereaved ones. The funeral, which was of a full military character, took place this afternoon to the Methodist portion of the general cemetery, the Rev. C. Ritchie officiating. The arrangements were carried out by Mr. A. P. Connor (Mudgee Guardian and North-Western Representative, Thursday 26 March 1953, page 2). |
