Note: Death at Cassilis.

Death at Cassilis. The Merriwa "Standard" says: - "On Monday morning, shortly after 8 o'clock, the infant daughter of Mr. and Mrs. W. J. Soles, of Cassilis, passed away after an illness lasting for three weeks. The little one was one year and ten months old. She was progressing well towards recovery, when the sudden change of weather on Saturday seemed to cause a relapse, after which all attention and care failed to revive the weakened little sufferer. Much sympathy is felt for the afflicted parents, who just six months previously were bereaved of the twin sister of the deceased child. Mudgee Guardian, Thursday 19 October 1905, p. 20. Mudgee Guardian, Thursday 5 October 1922, p. 19. Amelia Soles Sulky Cassilis. SULKY ACCIDENT. What might have been a serious accident happened to Mrs. W. J. Soles a few days ago when driving out to church at Turill. She was accompanied by two children, Master Ronald and Marie Chave, when a branch of a tree which had been left on the road became entangled in the wheel, and striking Mrs. Soles it threw her out of the sulky. She clung on to the reins for some distance but eventually had to let go and the position looked desperate for the children, but Master Ronald Chave, with great presence of mind, climbed dawn off the seat and picked up the reins, eventually bringing the horse to a standstill and thus averting what might have been a serious accident. Mrs. Soles was greatly bruised and shaken, but escaped serious injury. Mudgee Guardian, Thursday 5 October 1922, p. 19. Amelia Soles Sulky

Note: PASSED AWAY

PASSED AWAY Much regret was felt over a very wide area at the death of Mrs. W. J. Soles, aged 70, which took place after a lengthy illness at the Daphne Bowman Hospital, on Saturday 21st December. Deceased who had spent a very active life in the surrounding district, where she was born and reared, was endeared to many for her love of little children and kindly ways. Being president of the Junior Red Cross over a number of years and patroness of the Red Cross Adult Association, brought her in daily contact with the general public. She was also a great supporter of the G.U.O.F.F., of which she was a life-long member - in fact, up till quite recently, no lodge entertainment was complete without her. She is survived by two daughters and two sons, viz., Mesdames L Cook (Maitland) and F. King (Cassilis), Mr. Percy Soles (Cassilis) and Mr. Horace Soles (Sydney). There were five sisters and two bers of the family Mr. H. Soles, of Muswellbrook and Mrs. Cardow, ber and sister of Mr. W. J. Soles were present at the burial service, conducted by the Rev. S. V. Satchell, in the Church of England Cemetery, where the remains were laid to rest. Many beautiful wreaths were laid on the grave. A large number of cards, letters, etc., have also been received. Our sympathy is extended to those left to mourn. Mudgee Guardian, Monday 6 January 1941, p. 3. Obituary Amelia Soles
