Death of a paternal grandmother | Lilla Stacy 5 November 1912 (aged 13 years) DEATHS McPHERSON. - November 5, at Mudgee, Lilla, relict of late Ewen McPherson, and daughter of Dr. J. E. Stacy, formerly of Newcastle, N.S.W., aged 74 years. MRS. LILLA MACPHERSON. We regret to have to chronicle the death of Mrs. Lilla McPherson, which took place on Tuesday last at noon. The deceased lady's husband predeceased her by a number of years, he dying in the year 1880. The late Mrs. McPherson was a native of New South Wales. She was born on the 1st of August, 1838, and, was therefore, 74 years of age. She had resided in Mudgee for the past 23 years, and her many acts of benevolence and charity endeared her to all with whom she came into contact. For some two years the old lady had been pretty well continuously ill, but, prior to that time, she enjoyed good health. Three sons are left to mourn the loss of an affectionate mother, viz., Ewen Fergus (Sydney), Herbert J. (solicitor, Mudgee), and Arthur Fergus (Tingha). The remains were laid to rest in the Church of England cemetery yesterday morning, the Rev. W. J. Dunstan reading the burial service. Wreaths were forwarded by Mr. and Mrs. W. S. Walker, Miss Richards, members of the Mudgee Club, Mrs. Bentzen, Mr. and Mrs. H. J. McPherson and Miss Christie Cox. Many letters and telegrams of sympathy were also sent. |
Death of a maternal grandmother | Mary Lord 27 December 1922 (aged 23 years) DEATHS MACHATTIE. - December 27, 1922, at 43 Livingstone-road, Petersham, Mary, relict of the late R. R. Machattie, of Bathurst, and daughter of the late Francis Lord, of North Sydney, aged 84 years. MRS. M. MACHATTIE. The funeral took place yesterday, at St. Thomas's Church of England cemetery, North Sydney, of Mrs. Mary Machattie, widow of the late Mr. R. R. Machattie, of Bathurst. Mrs. Machattie, who was 81 years of age, died at her residence, Courtleroy, Livingstone-road, Petersham, on Wednesday. The Rev. H. N. Baker, of St. Thomas's, North Sydney, officiated at the graveside. Mrs. Machattie was a daughter of the late Mr. Francis Lord, of North Sydney, whose brother occupied at one time the post of Colonial Treasurer; sister of Mrs. Hixson, widow of the late Captain F. Hixson, for many years president of the Marine Board, and Officer Commanding the Naval Forces of New South Wales; and sister-in-law of Mrs. Jago Smith and Dr. Machattie, of Bathurst. Mrs. Machattie has left seven daughters - Mrs. S. C. Holmes, of Burwood, Mrs. E. S. Holmes, of Mortdale, Mrs. H. L. Cathie, of Manly, Mrs. N. Mackellar, of Randwick, Mrs. E. S. McPherson, of Croydon, Mrs. T. Cunningham, of Forbes, and Mrs. C. Bond, of Canada. The youngest daughter (Mrs. S. Elphingston) died some time ago. |
