Death | 14 June 1934 (aged 87 years) PERSONAL Mr. Henry Turner, a lifelong resident of the Rylstone district has died, aged 84. Daily Examiner, Monday 18 June 1934, p. 4. OBITUARY "Gentleman" Harry Passes On MR Harry Turner, one of the finest old gentlemen Rylstone ever possessed, passed peacefully away at his residence, Mudgee street, Rylstone, some time between midnight on Thursday and 5 a.m. on Friday, aged 85 years. Deceased had been ailing for a considerable period, seeming to be a little better at times, but members of the family had been expecting the end to be near for months. For many years, owner of the property, known as "Mt. View,'' Bogie, "Harry," as deceased was affectionately known to everyone throughout the district, sold his holding and came to town to reside, spending the latter years of his life gardening and, being a gun cricketer in his young days, taking a great interest in the doings of the Rylstone club; in fact, a cricket match did not seem such unless the veteran was at his post in the park jotting down each run. Marrying a Miss Baker, of Gulgong, the following sons and daughters were born of the union: Messrs Bob (Sydney), Stanley, Arthur, Cliff, Sid and Ted; Emily, Lily (Mrs. R. Hobby, Rylstone), Ida (Mrs. G. H. Price, Rylstone), Mabel (Mrs. J. Freeburn, Sydney), and Pet (Mrs Carroll, also deceased). A great reunion of deceased's old cobbers was held about two years ago to celebrate Harry's 83rd birthday, and it was a great shock for these same old cronies to learn that their old card-playing mate had died. The remains were laid to rest in the C. of E. portion of the Rylstone cemetery on Friday afternoon, the Rev. Norton officiating and delivering a fine address. Many charming floral tokens were placed on the casket, and a representative gathering of mourners from various parts of the district attended to pay their last respects to one of "Nature's gentleman."
