Note: OBITUARY

OBITUARY Mr. Thomas Cluff Mr. Thomas Cluff, of Neilrex, who was buried in the R.C. portion of the Dunedoo cemetery on Friday at 3 o'clock, had lived practically all his life in the Tallewang and Neilrex districts. His death on Thursday morning last, at 8 o'clock, caused deep regret throughout the Birriwa, Neilrex and Dunedoo districts, where he was well and widely known and highly respected. The late Mr. Cluff was postmaster at Neilrex and had been in indifferent health for the past two years. His health gradually became worse during the past year. Deceased was born at Leadville, at a farm nearly opposite "Wargundy," on the Talbragar. He was engaged in various gold diggings in the Tallewang area. He was the eldest son of the late James Cluff, formerly of Tallewang. At one time Mr. Thomas Cluff resided at Ben Buckley. More recently he went to Neilrex, where he lived for many years. The funeral at Dunedoo on Friday was one of the largest seen in the town for some time. Over 70 people attended the R.C. Church, where the solemn Esxequeris were read by the Rev. Father Currran. Many beautiful wreaths were laid on the coffin. Members of the M.U.I.O.O.F. lodge joined in the funeral procession. Funeral arrangements were in charge of Mr. R. S. Bayliss, Gulgong. Deceased is survived by his wife, five daughters and one son, viz: Mrs. Horace McCabe (Neilrex), A. Haigh (Sydney), Misses May, Evelyn, Rose (Neilrex), Charles (Neilrex). The late Mr. Cluff is also survived by three brothers, Messrs James (Dunedoo), Joseph and Gus (Binnaway), and three sisters, Mesdames James Smith (Sydney), J. Kirby (Queensland), and L. Young (Sydney). To the family, relatives and friends of deceased, the "Guardian" extends its sympathy. Mudgee Guardian, Thursday 2 June 1938, p. 6. Obituary Thomas Cluff

Note: OBITUARY

OBITUARY Late Mr. Thos. Cluff AS stated in the "Guardian" last week, Mr. Thomas Cluff, one of the oldest and most highly respected residents, passed away at his residence, Neilrex, on the 26th May, at the age of 70 years. Some 12 months ago he underwent a very critical operation at Wotton private hospital, Sydney. At the time the operation was pronounced by specialists as being quite successful. Nevertheless he had been a constant sufferer ever since, and his demise was not unexpected. He bore his intense sufferings with Christian fortitude. He was a fine neighbor, ever willing to do a good turn - in fact his benevolence knew no limit, especially to the most needy. No traveller was ever turned away empty handed. He leaves a widow, one son and five daughters to mourn the loss of a devoted and loving husband and father. The remains, encased in a handsome oak coffin, were interred in the R.C. portion of the Dunedoo cemetery. The Rev. Fathers Curran and Maher officiated. The cortege was a very lengthy one, and many beautiful wreaths were presented. The sympathy of the whole community is extended to the bereaved. The funeral was conducted by Mr. R. S. Bayliss, of Gulgong. Mudgee Guardian, Thursday 2 June 1938, p. 10. Obituary Thomas Cluff
