W. SOMERFIELD The late Mr. W. Somerfield, who passed away at Gulgong recently, was one of the most respected and highly esteemed landholders in the district. Born in England, he came out to Australia when 27 years of age and spent 55 years in the Gulgong and Cassilis districts, where he followed farming and grazing. He earned the appreciation of neighbors for his acts of kindness and his sudden passing at his home came as a shock to his many friends. During the past 12 months his health had been indifferent at times and he had been a patient in the Gulgong District Hospital. The Rev. L. V. Caldwell (Church of England) officiated at the graveside, the funeral arrangements being carried out by Mr. R. S. Bayliss. Besides a widow, the following grown up family is left to mourn their loss: Mrs. W. J. Buckley (Ulan), Messrs W. R. Somerfield, J. A. Somerfield, M. J. Somerfield, E. C. Somerfield, K. G. Somerfield, C. F. Somerfield (all of Gulgong), Constable Leslie Somerfield (Moama) and Ruby May Somerfield (Sydney). Mudgee Guardian, Thursday 9 October 1930, p. 23. Obituary William Somerfield
