Death of a son | James Derwin 1900 Local Brevities. Old Mr. Derwin, whose death was recorded in last issue, was one of the pioneers who came here in the days of hardships and struggle. It was the old imported settlers who experienced what early life was the real battle. In those days, too, it was as hard to get on to the land as it is now - because the land, though plentiful, was not getable, whilst today it is not available because of hurry-scurry alienation that has proceeded during the past 20 years. Now our boys are looking towards South Africa to make their homes. Mudgee Guardian, Friday 16 March 1900, p. 16. Obituary James Derwin |
