Note: Obituary

Obituary MRS. SARAH ANN WRIGHT. One of Mudgee's best known and most esteemed residents, in the person of Mrs. Sarah Ann Wright, passed to her reward at an early hour on Sunday morning, aged 72 years. She enjoyed fairly good health up till Wednesday last, when an attack of gastritis prostrated her, and she gradually sank and died as stated. Deceased, who had acted as a nurse in Mudgee for very many years, resided in the district practically all her life, and was very widely known and respected. She actively identified herself with the Labor movement, and at every election for many years past she was foremost in the fight. Her interest in civic affairs was also remarkably keen, and she canvassed extensively for her chosen candidates. Kindly and charitable to a degree, "Auntie" (as she was familiarly known to her wide circle of friends) was ever willing to assist those in distress, and her demise will be very sincerely regretted on all sides. Her sole surviving son (Joseph John) resides at Cullen Bullen, and he was present at her bedside during the closing hours. Mr. F. Buckley, McDonald's Creek, is a brother, as is also Mr. H. Buckley, of New Zealand, and for many years of Mudgee. The step-brothers are: Messrs. D. Patman (Tunnabutta) and Mr. J. Patman (Coonabarabran). To the sorrowing ones we extend deep sympathy. The funeral took place to the Church of England portion of the Mudgee cemetery on Sunday afternoon, Mr. H. Barton being in charge of the arrangements. Mudgee Guardian, Monday 27 February 1928, p. 7.
