Death of a son | Anslem James Jennings 1 November 1915 DEATH. JENNINGS. - November 1st, 1915, at Garrison Hospital, Victoria Barracks, Anselm Jennings, late of Manly Police. Beloved husband of Kate Jennings, and youngest son of Mr. and Mrs. John Jennings, of Mudgee and son-in-law of Mr. and Mrs. John Hynes, of Woollahra. Aged 36 years. Sun, Monday 1 November 1915, p. 7. Anslem Jennings Death DEATHS JENNINGS. - November 1, 1915, at Garrison Hospital, Victoria Barracks, Private Anselm Jennings, late of Manly Police, aged 36 years. Sydney Morning Herald, Tuesday 2 November 1915, p. 8. Anslem Jennings Death PRIVATE JENNINGS, MANLY. Considerable regret was manifest in the Manly district when the death of Private Anselm Jennings, formerly of the Manly Police, was announced. He was attached to that station on December 21, 1908, and was very popular. Last year he enlisted for active service at the front, but after his admittance he contracted pneumonia, and Dr. Hall of Manly ordered him into the local hospital. Recovering, he returned to Liverpool, but again became ill. The effects of his illness appeared to have worn off, and the determined young soldier went into camp again. He was only in camp, three days, when violent pains attacked him, and he was transferred to the Garrison Hospital, where he died on November 1. Deceased was a fine Australian of splendid physique, and was about 36 years of age. The funeral obsequies were of an imposing character. The remains were removed from the Garrison Hospital to St. Francis' Church, Paddington, and on All Souls Day Masses were celebrated for the repose of his soul. The authorities were anxious to provide a military funeral, but the widow preferred a semi-private one. A squad of soldiers from the barracks bearing reversed arms accompanied their comrade to his last resting place. The funeral took place in the afternoon, the Rev. Father O'Reilly and the Rev. F. Dwyer officiating at the graveside at Waverley. Freeman's Journal, Thursday 25 November 1915, p. 24. Anslem Jennings Obituary |

Death of a son | Joseph A Jennings 29 November 1925 Mr. Joseph Jennings. The death occurred at the District Hospital, Goulburn, on the 29th ult., of Joseph Jennings, fifth surviving son of the late Mr. and Mrs. John Jennings, of Pomeroy, near Goulburn. He had been ailing for a few months only, but he failed to respond to skilful nursing and treatment, and passed away fortified by every spiritual consolation that tends to make the last moments of the dying peaceful and happy. He enlisted in 1915, and was for a time at the military camp, but an accident in early youth made him unable to stand the training, and he was given an honourable discharge, and allowed to leave. His one desire was to sail with his two nephews, Messrs. Percy and Ollie Sykes (the former of whom paid the supreme sacrifice in France in 1916) - R.l.P. Catholic Press, Thursday 24 December 1925, p. 23. Joseph Jennings Obituary |
Death of a son | Benedict Leo Jennings 5 December 1954 OBITUARY MR. B. JENNINGS Mr. Benedict Jennings, formerly of Goulburn, died at Mt. St. Joseph's Home, Young, on Sunday night, at the age of 81 years. For many years he had spent part of his days occupying one of the benches near Belmore Park, conversing with old friends. It is understood that he was born in the Goulburn district, and that during one period he had been school teacher and headmaster in the South Coast district. He was Mayor of Dubbo in 1901. In latter years, when his hut on Governor's Hill was destroyed by fire, he had moved to a building at the rear of premises in Bradley Street, near the Bowling Club. This was recently demolished to make way for a proposed road, and by the combined efforts of young men who had befriended him, he was admitted to the home for aged, at Young, and also supplied with a radio. It is understood that he is survived by a daughter, who belongs to a religious order in Wagga. Goulburn Evening Post, Monday 6 December 1954, p. 2. Benedict Jennings Obituary |
