Death of a brother | Edwin Charles Dowel 20 September 1902 (aged 36 years) Death of Mr. Edwin Dowell. The tolling of the bell of St. John's Church on Saturday morning announced that death had mercifully ended the sufferings of Edwin Charles Dowell, of Wilbetree. The deceased, who was 28 years of age, was the third son of Mr. James Dowell, of Wilbetree, and was married to the youngest daughter of Mr. Jonathan Bones, of Snake's Creek, who, with two young children, is left to mourn for her irreparable loss. The deceased had been a great sufferer for a lengthy period, and had undergone two severe operations, the relief from which was only temporary. Intense suffering was borne with great patience, and during the past fortnight Mr. Dowell's condition seemed to have somewhat improved, and on Friday he was better than he had been for some time. At about midnight though a rapid change took place, and at about 4 o'clock death came to relieve a suffering which at times must have been unbearable. The large attendance at the funeral yesterday testified to the respect in which the deceased was held in this district. Those who survive have our very deepest sympathy.
