Death of a paternal grandmother | Rebecca White 8 April 1910 (aged 22 years) DEATH OF MRS. HARDWICK. Quite a gloom was cast over the community of Rylstone on Friday last, when the news was received that Mrs. Rebecca Hardwick, relict of the late John William Hardwick, had passed away on Thursday night, at her daughter's home at Haberfield, after a lingering illness which had afflicted her for two years. Mrs. Hardwick, who was 74 years of age at the time of her death, was a native of Hampshire, England. She came to Australia with her parents when a child, and has been a resident of Rylstone for over 50 years. The bereaved relatives include five sons and two widowed daughters, namely, - Messrs George Hardwick (Rylstone), E. F. Hardwick (Sydney), W. B. Hardwick (at present on a voyage to England), Harold Hardwick (Mudgee), Reginald Hardwick (Sydney), Mrs. White (Haberfield), and Mrs. James. The funeral services were conducted at the Rylstone cemetery yesterday afternoon by Rev. J. B. Penman, of Mudgee, in the presence of a large concourse, and a panegyric of the late Mrs. Hardwick was preached by the Rev. Penman in the Rylstone Methodist Church last evening. Death of a father | George White Hardwick 17 November 1914 (aged 26 years) Death at Rylstone. Mr. George Hardwick. Quite a shock was caused to the people of Rylstone and Mudgee when it became known that Mr. George White Hardwick had passed away. The deceased, who had suffered with heart trouble for about two years, recently went to his son's place (Mr. Arthur Hardwick, C.P.S. at Campbelltown) to recuperate. Little improvement came from the change and Mr. Hardwick decided to enter Dr. Murray Oram's private hospital at Darlinghurst (Dr. Murray Oram, we might mention, was an old college chum of Mr. Hardwick). The deceased was an inmate of the hospital for about two weeks, and he passed away on Tuesday afternoon. His age was 57 years. He leaves a widow and three sons - Arthur, C.P.S. Campbelltown; Aubrey, Justice Department, Sydney, and Jack, who is with a shipping office - and two daughters - Emily and Marion - to mourn. He was a ber of Messrs. Harold Hardwick (architect, Mudgee), Edward (Stanmore), William (Government architect Perth), and Reginald (P.O., Walcha). Mrs. Hardwick's maiden name was Miss Jane Harris, of Rylstone. The deceased, who was a native of Rylstone, he being a son of the late Mr. J. W. Hardwick, was very popular and held a high position in all affairs at Rylstone. He made many friends, and was looked upon with respect by all who knew him. For many years he conducted a butchery and auctioneering business at Rylstone, but of late he only conducted the latter business. As a businessman he was very successful, and the auctioneering name of G. W. Hardwick was well-known in the west. By his demise Rylstone has lost one of its foremost citizens. The deceased also was a keen sportsman. The funeral took place at Rylstone today. To the bereaved ones we extend our deepest sympathy (Mudgee Guardian and North-Western Representative, Thursday 19 November 1914, page 26). |
