WEDDING

STEINHOUR - MATTHEWS.

A quiet but pretty wedding was celebrated in the Wollongong Methodist Church on Saturday afternoon the Rev. R. C. Oakley officiating, when Miss Mabel Matthews, eldest daughter, of Mr. and Mrs. J. Matthews, of Loftus Street, Wollongong, wasunited to Mr. Walter Steinhour, of Kiama, and son of Mr. Steinhour and the late Mrs Steinhour, of Cumnock. The bride who entered the Church on the arm of her father, was gowned in ankle length white satin. The veil reached to the ground and wascaught in place with a wreath of orange blossoms, She carried a posy of pink and blue sweet peas. The bridesmaid was Miss Jean Hawken, of Corrimal, who was attired in an ankle length gown of powder blue georgette, and carried a posy of sweetpeas. The bridegroom was attended by Mr. Matthews, junr., as best man. The reception was held at the home of the bride's parents, where the guests were received by the bride's mother, who wore a grey morocain frock. The bridegroom's aunt, Mrs.Roach, who was also present, was frocked in brown crepe de chene. The wedding breakfast was attended, by only immediate friends of the bride and bridegroom. The happy couple sat beneath a wedding bell, suspended from the ceiling by streamers,whilst the wedding cake was in the centre of the table, and was duly cut by the bride in orthodox fashion. The toasts were: 'The King,' 'The Bride and Bridegroom,' 'The Bridesmaid,' 'The Bride's Parents,' 'The Bridegroom's Father.' A specialtoast was drunk to Mrs. Andrews, of Glebe, Sydney, a very old friend, and after whom the bride was named. A very happy function was concluded with the toast of the chairman. The happy couple subsequently took their departure on their honeymoon,accompanied with good wishes from all present. (Illawarra Mercury Friday 28 September 28 1934, p. 9)
