LATE MRS. CARMICHAEL

IMPRESSIVE FUNERAL The respect in which the family is held was plainly demonstrated at the funeral of the late Mrs. W. Carmichael on Friday afternoon last. Friends came from far and near to pay their last sad tribute of respect, while the beautiful floral offerings bore eloquent testimony of the love and esteem in which deceased was held. Many public bodies with which the bereaved husband is connected forwarded floral tributes and messages of condolence. Mr. S. L. Gardner, M.H.R., a close friend of the family, was one of the first to express his deep regret, while Aldermen E. A. Bartlett (Mayor), J. Dykes, T. Robinson, and Mr W. J. McCully, who were absent in Armidale when the sad news reached them, travelled all night in order to be present at the funeral. Mr. D. H. Spring, M.L.A., made the trip from Sydney to show his respect. The A.O.F. Foresters, with which Mr. Carmichael has been connected for a great many years, headed the funeral cortege, and the interment took place in the Presbyterian portion of the general cemetery. The Rev. W. G. Maconochie performed the last and rites at the graveside. Mr. J. C. Swords had charge of the funeral arrangements.
