Note: OBITUARY

OBITUARY Mr. Nicholas Weis Mr. Nicholas Weis, father of Mrs. Morien Morgan, of Dunedoo, died in the Gulgong District Hospital on Saturday night, after an illness extending over three weeks Mr. Weis, who was aged 72 years, was the victim of pneumonia, later contracting pleurisy. Deceased was born at Uarbry in the year 1885. He came to "Fairfield" in the year 1890. The property at that time was mainly scrub, and deceased was one of the first settlers in the locality. After effecting many improvements, he was one of the first to introduce lucerne growing in the Dunedoo district. The property is now mainly cleared and is regarded as one of the first-class holdings in the district. The improvements which have been effected can be attributed to the untiring energy and ceaseless toil of the late Mr. Weis. He was a man of a somewhat retiring disposition, devoted to his home and family, but was sincere in all his dealings with his neighbors. Though Mr. Weis was not often seen in public, he took a keen interest in the progress of the Dunedoo district. Those who were closely associated with him found him a trustworthy and upright man, whose code was a strict adherence to truthfulness. Mr. Weis had been married 45 years. He is survived by his widow and five daughters and one son, viz., Vera (Mrs. W. Lewis, of Campsie), Edith (Mrs. M. Morgan, Dunedoo), Doris (Hurlstone Park), Daisy (Mrs. C. Roth, Mudgee), Ivy (Mrs. R. K. McAIpine, McLean), and Clarence (Dunedoo). Other relatives are: Mrs. H. Roth (sister Mudgee), Mrs. W. Scott (sister, Gulgong), Mrs. T. Haynes (sister, Cassilis), Mr. W. Weis (brother, Uarbry), Messrs. D. McMaster, W. McMaster, and I. Weis (nephews). The sympathy of the whole district is extended to the sorrowing relatives. The funeral, which was a large one, and representative of the district, left the Dunedoo Church of England on Monday afternoon at 2.15 p.m. The remains were laid to rest in the Church of England portion of the Dunedoo cemetery, the last sad rites at the graveside being performed by the Rev. L. V. Caldwell, of Gulgong. The Rev. Mr. Caldwell conducted both services in the absence of the Rev. R. Douglas, of Coolah, who had arranged to conduct a confirmation service at Merrygoen. Pall bearers were Messrs. O. L. Milling, Frank Rhodes, Keith and Edison Rowbotham. Among the many beautiful wreaths laid on the grave were those from the following:- Mrs. N. Weis and family; Susan; grand-children Joan, Ivy, and Betty; Mr. Clarrie Weis; W.M., officers, and brethren of Lodge Dunedoo 647; Mrs. C. H. Roth and family; Mr. and Mrs. Ray Roth and family; Mr. and Mrs. O. L. Milling and family; Mr. and Mrs. A. F. Leeson; Mr. and Mrs. H. V. Croft and family; Mr. and Mrs. David Kemp; Mr. P. F. Barrett; Mrs. B. J. Egan (Gulgong), Mr. R. S. Bayliss, of Gulgong, was the undertaker. To the relatives and friends of deceased, the "Guardian" extends deep sympathy.
