Note: DEATH

DEATH MR. W. H. COOK After a nine weeks' illness, the death occurred at the Rylstone Hospital on the night of October 21 of Mr. William Henry Cook. Deceased was born at Lue 76 years ago and had been in the Rylstone district all his life. For many years he was wardsman at the Rylstone Hospital, and prior to his passing he was in the employ of Mr. Loveridge, storekeeper, Rylstone. The late Bill Cook was a World War 1 veteran, having served overseas with the 2nd Battalion, and he was a staunch member of the Rylstone R.S.L. sub-branch. All through his illness, he always had a cheery word for those who visited him, no matter how he felt. When asked how he was progressing, he always replied, 'Well I am a little better if anything.' Now he has gone, a gap has been left in the 'digger' community - he was above all the little pinpricks and petty arguments most people are prone to, and was a man who also understood and practised the principles of friendliness. After a service in the Rylstone Methodist Church conducted by Mr. L. O. Taylor, the funeral took place to the Rylstone cemetery on Thursday. Members of the Rylstone R.S.L. sub-branch, marched beside the hearse to Fitzgerald Street, and after the church service at the grave, Air. Jack Tindale, president of the branch, read the soldiers' service. The Last Post was sounded by Mr. Howard Abraham. Deceased, who was single, is survived by three bers, Jim and Tom (Gulgong) and George (Maitland), also three sisters, Mrs. F. Webster and Mrs. J. Smede (Lue) and Mrs. F. Holland (Mudgee), to whom we join in extending deepest sympathy. Mudgee Guardian, Thursday 30 October 1952, p. 7. Obituary, William Henry Cook
