Death of a brother | Charles G Archer May 1916 (aged 15 years) CHARLES ARCHER. Mr. Charlie Archer, aged 19 years, son of Mr. Henry Archer of Ulan who was admitted to the Gulgong Hospital last week, suffering from tetanus, died in that institution. He was a very popular young fellow, and a member of a highly-respected family. It appears that he was engaged rabbiting about three weeks ago, when a rabbit scratched him on the hand. It is believed that germs from the earth got into the hand, and brought on the terrible disease. The young fellow wanted to go to the war for some months past, but his parents considered that he was scarcely old enough. Much sympathy is expressed for the bereaved parents and relatives (Mudgee Guardian and North-Western Representative, Monday 22 May 1916, page 2). |
Death of a father | Henry Archer 24 November 1955 (aged 54 years) MR. HENRY ARCHER The death occurred at his residence in Bayley Street, Gulgong recently of Mr. Henry Archer, aged 86 years. The funeral took place at Ulan, Rev. Fisher, of Merriwa, officiating at the church and the graveside. The late Mr. Archer was one of the district's most respected citizens. He lived most of his life in the Gulgong area, and during his time drove wagons, was a bush timber worker, and later went in for farming. He was active to within a few months of his demise. Deceased is survived by his wife, sons, Herbert, Frederick (Merriwa) Hubert Merriwa) Raymond, Carl and Lyall, daughters, Eva (Mrs H. Gossage), Bessie (Mrs C Beedell). Deepest sympathy is extended to the bereaved. - Advertiser (Muswellbrook Chronicle, Friday 30 December 1955, page 3). |
Death of a mother | Ellen Matilda Robinson 12 August 1961 (aged 60 years) Death Mrs. E. M. Archer A very highly respected resident of the town and district Mrs. Ellen Matilda Archer, passed away in the District Hospital on August 12, at the age of 89. Deceased was born at Wilpinjong. Her husband predeceased her over 15 years ago. The late Mr. and Mrs. Archer came to Gulgong some 16 years ago to reside for health reasons and to be close to a doctor. A family of six sons and two daughters survive namely: Herbert (Ulan district), Hugh and Frederick (Merriwa), Ray (Gulgong), Carl (Arncliffe), Lyle (Turill), Mesdames H. (Eva) Gossage (Gulgong), and C. (Bessie) Beedell (Brisbane) to whom sympathy is extended. The funeral took place to the Church of England cemetery at Ulan, Rev. Death of a brother | Lionel Victor Archer 1984 (aged 83 years) Round-A-Bout With Belle The death occurred of Mr. Lionel Victor Archer of “Echo Dell” Turill. “Lysle” as he was known, was a member of a large family. He was the youngest son of the late Mr. and Mrs. Harry Archer, pioneers of the Murragamba-Ulan area. Over the years Lysle had been employed as a rural worker, and then he had a carrying business, carting sleepers and grain. He also drove the Turill-Uarbry school bus for many years. As well, he had his farming and grazing property “Echo Dell”. He had a very cheery disposition and as a younger man enjoyed sport, and played a good game of tennis. Lysle was also a regular supporter of the Presbyterian Church at Turill in the Gulgong Parish. He is survived by his wife Louise, who unfortunately has been a semi-invalid for many years, his daughters Pamela and Marjorie, sons Wally and Morrie also his bers and sisters. The esteem in which Lysle Archer was held was evident in the large number of people who filled and overflowed from St. Cuthbert’s Anglican Church at Ulan. It seemed very fitting that the funeral service was conducted by the Presbyterian Minister from Gulgong, in St. Cuthbert’s Anglican Church where Lysle’s late parents and members of his family worshipped for many years. The funeral took place in the Ulan Cemetery at 3 p.m. on March 26. Mudgee Guardian, Tuesday 3 April 1984, p. 2. Death Lionel Victor Archer |
