Obituary

Mr. H. T. Cooper

On August 4, in the General Repatriation Hospital, Concord, another Rylstone Returned Soldier passed away, after about four weeks in hospital. He was Harold Thomas Cooper, of Dawson Street, Rylstone, who was born and lived all his life in the Rylstone district. During the first World War, Harold enlisted and served in the 53rd Battalion. He served in the Army for four years, three years and seventy days overseas. He was gassed and wounded in action, while in France on active service. On returning home he married Miss Ina Hardy, of Glen Alice, and they had been married over 63 years. Harold commenced working for the Rylstone Shire Council from which position he retired at the age of 65, in December 1962. Deepest sympathy is extended to his wife, Ina, his two daughters Mrs. Diehm, (Ivy) of Rylstone and Mrs. Bruce (Val) of Crows Nest, and his three sons, Cecil, Neville, and Thomas, all of Rylstone. One daughter Norma, predeceased him. Also left to mourn his passing are his five sisters: Mrs. Butler (Mona), Naremburn, Mrs. Selig (Linda), Marylands, Mrs. Haughton (May), Melbourne, Mrs. Fitzgibbons (Essie), Parramatta, Mrs. Wolff (Iris, Granville, and two brothers, Clyde, of Rylstone and Ray, Newcastle. They are also 11 grandchildren. The funeral was on Thursday afternoon from the Methodist Church, Rylstone. Rev. Armstrong took the service at the Church, and at the Cemetery. The military portion of the funeral service was conducted by Mr. Marsh, of the R.S.S. and A.I.L.A Sub-branch at Mudgee. As the cortege left the church the Returned Soldiers and the Rylstone Shire employees formed a guard of honour and marched at the head of the cortege. The pall bearers were employees of the Rylstone Shire Council, Messrs. Mervyn Clarke, Harold McDonald, Stan Hobby, and George Deveigne. Among the very many floral tributes, were wreaths from the R.S.S. and A.I.L. Rylstone Branch; also the Ladies Auxiliary, of the R.S.S. and A.I.L.; from The President, 53rd. Battalion, Mudgee; The President, Rylstone Shire; The Outdoor Staff; Rylstone Shire; The Indoor Staff; Rylstone Shire; The Rylstone Golf Club, and Stores and Office staff of Standard Portland Cement Co., Charbon.
