Death of a father | Charles Tattersall 7 June 1912 (aged 59 years) Death of an Old Gulgong Resident During the past two months or so hardly a week has gone by but what Death has not made its presence felt in our community. It has called in a sad and regular way, and the last to answer the call for the great long journey was Mr. Charles Tattersall, who died on Friday last, one of the very oldest residents of this town and district. The deceased was a son of the late William Tattersall, and was born at Bridport, Dorsetshire, England, on December 14, 1822, being within a few days of 89½ years of age at the time of his death. In the early days he followed the occupation of a flax comber, afterwards coming to Sydney in 1849, residing in the State for a period of 63 years, and for the greater part of that time in and around this district. Death was due to heart failure. A family of five sons and one daughter and a large number of grand and great-grandchildren are left to mourn their loss. The funeral took place on Saturday, and was attended by a large concourse of sorrowing relatives and friends. Ven. Archdeacon Geer officiated at the graveside, and Mr. George Dando conducted the funeral arrangements. We extend our sympathy. Mudgee Guardian, Thursday 13 June 1912, p. 23.
