DEATH Mr. E. Canobi Mr. Everisto ("Chris.") Canobi, of "Braymont," Gulgong, died in the Gulgong District Hospital on September 14, after a brief illness, aged 64 years. Deceased was a well-known farmer of this district. He was born at Lombardy (Italy) near the Switzerland border, and was only three years of age when he came to Australia with his parents, who after residing in the Gosford area for a few years, settled on the land in the Gulgong district Deceased attended the Wyaldra Public School, which was closed many years ago. After leaving school, the late Mr. Canobi worked with his father on a steam traction engine and thrashing plant, and later, on a chaff-cutter. He resided at "Braymont" for about 36 years and until his health began to fail, was a hard worker. Deceased was a man with many friends and will be greatly missed from the community. Although he did not take an active part in public life, he showed a keen interest, through the newspapers and in conversation with friends, in all matters, including politics. In referring to his sterling character, a citizen stated recently that he had never heard "Chris." Canobi speak ill of anyone. He was a man who loved his home and family, and his adherence to the Christian way of life was manifest in his every dealing. Mrs. Canobi and three grown-up sons, Jack and Victor ("Braymont") and Cecil (Home Rule) survive, to all of whom the profound sympathy of very many friends will be extended. Mrs. F. Menchin, of Gulgong, is a sister. The funeral took place to the Roman Catholic portion of the Gulgong cemetery, the Rev. Father Scanlon officiating. Arrangements were carried out by Mr. D. Whale (Gulgong Motor Funerals). Mudgee Guardian, Thursday 25 September 1947, p. 16. Everisto Canobi Obituary
