Marriage of a child | George Phelps — Martha Jane Harris — View this family 1878 A Double Wedding. On Thursday last, at Ilford, near Mudgee, the Rev. Mr. Caldwell had the unusual pleasure of uniting in wedlock two bRothers to two sisters. The bridegrooms were Messrs. George and James N. Phelps and the charming brides were Misses Martha and Alice Harris, the third and second daughters of Mr. William Harris, an old and esteemed resident of Ilford, who, on Thursday next, will be entertained at a public dinner, prior to his leaving the district for his future home on the Namoi. The church was beautifully decorated with flowers and evergreens, and after the ceremony a large company sat down to the wedding breakfast at Mr. Harris's when long life and unalloyed happiness to the doubly united happy pairs was enthusiastically toasted. According to the Independent, the event, despite the day being wet, created a stir in Ilford, especially amongst the Ilford roses, woo bloom so charmingly at all seasons (Evening News, Wednesday 3 April 1878, p. 2). |

Marriage of a child | Samuel Harris — Eva Jane White — View this family 27 August 1884 Rylstone. Through the intervention of the Rev. B. Lane, Mr. Abel White, of Rockville, was, on the 27th ultimo, deprived of his third daughter, Miss Eva Jane, who was given to the keeping of Mr. Samuel, eldest son of W. Harris, of Oak Grove, Moree. The bride looked very nice in dove-coloured cashmere, orange wreath and veil. Her sisters, Misses Florrie, Lydia, and Edna, and Miss Harris (sister of bridegroom), were in attendance; two of whom wore fawn cashmere and forget-me-not wreaths, and two in white and blue. Wesleyan Church filled with friends of the pair, and so was the railway station when Mr. and Mrs. Harris left for Sydney. Australian Town and Country, Saturday 27 September 1884, p. 30.
