Cafe of Ilford, NSW, to Leila ('Babe" ), youngest daughter of Mrs. James Gawthorne of Wattle Grove, Bankstown (Sydney Morning Herald, Wednesday 6 December 1916, page 10). Wedding. CAFE - GAWTHORNE A very pretty wedding was celebrated at St. Paul's, Bankstown, Sydney, on October 28, when Leila (Babe) youngest daughter of Mrs. James Gawthorne, of "Wattle Grove," Bankstown and formerly of Mudgee, was married to Percy, son of Mr. and Mrs. Geo. Cafe, of Ilford, N.S.W. The church was beautifully decorated by girl friends of the bride with pink and white flowers, and an archway of asparagus fern and flannel flowers. The Rev. W. Rutledge Newton performed the ceremony. The bride, who was given away by her mother, wore a dainty gown of white violet with flouncings of malines lace. A trail of orange blossoms held the tulle veil, and the bridal bouquet was composed of lillies of the valley, roses, and carnations. She also wore a gold bangle, the gift of the bridegroom. The bridesmaid, Miss Myree Gawthorne (sister) wore a pretty frock of pale pink taffeta, with a becoming hat of tagal straw, trimmed with pink wax flowers, and carried a bouquet of pink carnations and roses, which with a gold brooch, set with aqua-marines and pearls, were gifts from the bridegroom . Mr. James Gawthorne, ber of the bride, was best man, and Mr. John Cafe, ber of the bridegroom, groomsman. After the wedding breakfast, which was held at "Wattle Grove," the happy couple left for the South Coast, where the honeymoon was spent. The bride's travelling dress was of pink cloth, trimmed, with black velvet, with hat to match. Mudgee Guardian, Thursday 30 November 1916, p. 11. Wedding Cafe and Gawthorne |
